My husband’s losing fight with a tree…

I was watching my husband pick up these teeny tiny leaves in our yard yesterday.

Poor guy was getting more frustrated by the minute. As he was in the process of picking up his carefully curated pile while more leaves were dropping. It was like nature’s own comedy show, except he wasn’t laughing.

I suggested we cut down the troublemaker and plant a ficus instead. Those things are champions here in the Arizona desert heat. No messy leaves, no constant cleanup.

His response? “I’m not cutting down a perfectly good tree just to plant another one.”

And that’s when it hit me. We do this exact same thing in business all the time.

We hold onto strategies that aren’t working because they’re “perfectly good.” We keep using tools that waste our time because “that’s just how we’ve always done it.”

We stick with outdated systems that drain our energy faster than my husband’s leaf-dropping tree drains his.

But here’s the thing – sometimes the best move is to grab that metaphorical chainsaw and make a change.

Maybe it’s time to look at what’s actually serving you in your business and what’s your leaf-dropping tree?

Is it that social media strategy that’s eating up hours of your time with minimal returns? Or maybe it’s that complicated email system that makes you want to pull your hair out?

Listen, I’m not saying you need to go all lumberjack on your business (although I did recently – I’ll tell you more about that later). But sometimes a fresh start with a “ficus” is exactly what you need.
