Today, I want to tackle a notion that’s often considered a prerequisite for success: confidence. We’re constantly told how important it is to be confident – in our abilities, in our decisions, in our paths. But here’s a slightly different take: what if I told you that you don’t necessarily need confidence to move forward? What if the real key lies in feeling the fear and doing it anyway?

Yes, confidence is great. It’s empowering and comforting. But let’s be honest, it’s not always there when we need it. There are moments, plenty of them, where doubt creeps in, and our confidence wavers. In these moments, waiting for confidence to strike can leave us stagnant.

That’s why I believe in a different approach – feel the fear and do it anyway.

Think about it. Some of the most significant moments in life – starting a business, making a life-changing decision, or stepping into the unknown – often come with a hefty dose of fear. It’s natural. Fear is our mind’s way of signaling that we’re about to do something important, something out of our comfort zone.

Instead of waiting for the fear to subside before you take action, acknowledge it, feel it, and then move forward despite it. It’s not about being fearless; it’s about being courageous. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s the decision to act in spite of it.

I’ve found that some of my most rewarding experiences have come from doing just this. When I felt least confident, when fear was at its peak, choosing to move forward was where I found strength I didn’t know I had. It’s where I learned the most about myself.

So, how do we do this? Start by acknowledging your fear. Recognize it as a natural response to stepping out of your comfort zone. Then, take a small step. It doesn’t have to be a giant leap. Small, consistent actions in the face of fear can lead to significant progress over time.

And know this – confidence can grow from action. The more you ‘feel the fear and do it anyway,’ the more you’ll find your confidence building.
