Yesterday, I talked about protecting yourself from thieves. Today, I’m talking about being a giver.
What gives? Let me explain…
Successful people give their time, energy, and belief – and oftentimes, they do it for free. That said, it’s important to strike a balance. Being a giver doesn’t mean depleting yourself or giving away everything without boundaries or discernment. It’s about giving smartly and effectively, ensuring that your generosity also aligns with your values and goals.
This balance is the key to sustainable giving. You can be generous and protective of your resources at the same time. It’s not about choosing one over the other but understanding when and how to give. This discernment ensures that your giving is impactful and meaningful, both to others and to yourself.
As a giver, you must constantly be filling your own tank. How do you refill it? Read books, listen to podcasts, engage yourself in your industry, and, of course, get a coach/mentor. Do what it takes to keep your tank full otherwise, you’ll have nothing else to give. This practice of self-replenishment is crucial. It ensures that you can continue to offer support, knowledge, and inspiration to others without burning out.
Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
