2025 Marketing Trends to Watch

by MISTY KORTES

December 18, 2024

This time of year, it seems like everyone’s buzzing about the latest trends. I think it’s important that we pause and take a moment to really think about why these trends matter to us and our businesses. Because it’s not just about jumping on the next big shiny idea—it’s about taking a step back, reflecting on what’s been working, what’s not cutting it anymore, and deciding what’s worth bringing into the new year.

Why does this matter? Because the marketing world is changing faster than ever. What connected with your audience a year ago might not be today. And if you want to stay ahead—not just keep up—you’ve got to know where the industry is headed and how to align it with what you do best.

So, in today’s training, we’re unpacking the key marketing trends to watch in 2025. These aren’t just ideas for the “big players.” They’re practical and actionable things that you can apply to your business, no matter what stage you’re at.

So, if you’re ready to stay ahead of the curve and kickstart the new year with strategies that work, you’re in the right place. Let’s dive in!

Here’s how I’d like to tackle the topic today. We’ll start by talking about the three things that are not working anymore, then segue into the top three things that are working. And then, we’ll wrap up by looking into our crystal ball and talk about trends that we’ll be seeing more of in 2025.

What’s Not Working

Let’s dive into what’s not working first.

1. Overreliance on Organic Social Media

Remember the days when posting consistently meant your content would reach tons of people for free? Yeah, not so much anymore. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook have dialed down organic reach, which means your posts are showing up to fewer people—even if you’re doing everything right. If you’re relying on organic alone to grow your business, it’s time to rethink your strategy.

What Strategy Do I Recommend?

Here’s the thing: organic social media still has a place, but it works best when it’s paired with a targeted paid strategy.

Instead of trying to win the organic game alone, let’s work with the algorithms to get the most bang for your effort.

Here’s how it works: Start by posting consistently, like you already are. Then, pay attention to the posts that are getting the most likes, comments, shares, or saves. Those posts are gold because they’re already resonating with your audience. Boost those high-performing posts with a little ad spend to get them in front of even more of the right people—your target audience.

And here’s the key: make sure the posts you boost have a clear call-to-action that aligns with your goals. Don’t overcomplicate it—just guide your audience to the next step.

2. Generic Content That Tries to Speak to Everyone

The second thing that’s no longer working is posting generic content that tries to speak to everyone.

Let’s first talk about how the algorithm has changed—because this shift is a big one. TikTok completely flipped the script on how content gets seen. Instead of prioritizing showing your content to your followers, they prioritize showing it to people who are actually consuming your content.

Now, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn—basically everyone—are playing by the same rules. It’s no longer about how many followers you have or how often you post. The algorithm is asking one question: “Who is engaging with this content?” If the answer is “no one,” then guess what? The algorithm stops showing it.

This is exactly why generic content doesn’t work anymore. If your posts are too broad or too vague, they’re not hooking anyone. People scroll right by, and the algorithm takes note. It’s looking for content that grabs attention and keeps people watching, reading, or engaging—and that happens when your content feels specific and personal.

So, how do you create content that actually connects with your audience? Here are three simple tips:

  1. Speak Directly to Your PIC
Your PIC is your Perfect Ideal Client—the exact person you’re trying to serve. Imagine you’re talking to them one-on-one. What are they struggling with? What do they care about? Use language that makes them feel like you get them.
  2. Focus on One Problem or One Solution at a Time
Instead of trying to cram everything into one post, solve one specific problem, or answer one burning question. For example:
    • Instead of “5 Ways to Market Your Business,” try “How to Get Your First 100 Email Subscribers Without Spending a Dime.”
  3. Hook Them in the First Line
People are scrolling fast, so your first line needs to grab them instantly. Start with a question, a bold statement, or something that makes them stop and say, “Wait, I need to read this.”
    • Example: “How I lost 60 lbs as a 50-year-old with PCOS.”

When you create content with your PIC in mind, you’re not just shouting into the void—you’re creating a connection. And that is the kind of content the algorithm loves and your audience will, too.

3. Ignoring Video Marketing

And the third thing that’s no longer working is ignoring video marketing.

If you’ve been avoiding video because it feels intimidating, overwhelming, or like something only “the big names” or “influencers” can pull off, let me give you a friendly nudge—it’s time for a wake-up call. Static posts and pretty images just aren’t cutting it the way they used to. Your audience is hungry for video.

Here’s why: Again, TikTok completely changed the game. They proved that people want video content that’s quick, engaging, and feels real. So, platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and even YouTube are pushing short-form videos harder than ever. It’s where the eyeballs are, and if you’re not showing up with video, you’re missing out on the opportunity to connect with your audience.

And here’s the thing: you don’t need fancy equipment, hours of editing, or to be a professional on camera. What matters is that you’re showing up consistently with content your audience cares about.

So, What’s the Strategy?

Here’s the framework I love: Create, Observe, and Amplify.

  1. Create Short-Form Videos That Add Value
Focus on quick, punchy videos that provide real value. Think tips, quick solutions, relatable stories, or even behind-the-scenes content. Keep it short (30–60 seconds), and don’t worry about perfection—raw, authentic content performs better anyway.
    • Example: If you’re a business coach, share a 3-step tip for growing an email list or solving a common mistake.
  2. Observe What’s Working
Pay attention to the videos that get the most views, engagement, or shares. The content your audience already loves tells you exactly what they want to see more of.
  3. Amplify the Winners
Again, take your top-performing videos and give them a boost. Add a little ad spend to get them in front of more of your ideal audience. This doesn’t need to break the bank—even $5–10 can go a long way if you’re targeting the right people.

Quick Tips for Starting with Video:

  • Hook Them in the First 3 Seconds: Start strong with a question, a bold statement, or a quick promise. “Struggling to get clients? Here’s the fix.”
  • Keep It Simple: Don’t overthink it. Focus on one topic per video.
  • Use Text on Screen: Most people watch with the sound off, so captions are key.
  • Be You: People connect with people. Don’t worry about being polished—just show up as yourself.

The bottom line? Video isn’t optional anymore if you want to stay relevant and connect with your audience. It’s the best way to build trust, provide value, and, honestly, stand out in a crowded market. So, grab your phone, press record, and remember—it gets easier the more you do it.

What’s Working

Now that we’ve talked about what’s not working let’s flip the script and focus on what is.

Here’s the thing—if you’ve been paying close attention, we’ve kind of already touched on some strategies that are working (even when we were talking about what’s not). Because the truth is, the flip side of every challenge is an opportunity.

For example:

  • If organic reach isn’t cutting it anymore, boosting high-performing posts with a targeted paid strategy is working.
  • If generic content gets ignored, hyper-focused, value-packed content that speaks directly to your audience is what’s connecting.
  • And if static posts are fading out, video marketing—especially short-form video—is where people’s attention is going.

So, let’s dig into this even deeper. I’m going to walk you through the top 3 marketing trends that are working right now.

The top three strategies that are working right now:

  1. Creating Frictionless Lead Generation Systems
  2. Interactive Content
  3. Personalization Through Automation

Let’s break each one down so you can see exactly how to apply them to your business.

1. Creating Frictionless Lead Generation Systems

Let’s start with a quick question: Have you ever clicked on a link for a free resource, only to find yourself stuck filling out a form, waiting for the confirmation email, clicking again to download the thing… and by the time you finally get it, you’re over it?

That is friction.

A frictionless lead generation system removes all the unnecessary steps between your audience seeing your offer and actually getting it. It makes it easy, seamless, and—most importantly—instant.

Why Is This Important?

We live in an on-demand world. People are impatient (you know it, I know it), and they expect results now. Every extra click, form, or delay is a chance for them to lose interest or, worse, abandon the process entirely.

Traditional Lead Gen Funnel

Here’s what a typical lead generation funnel looks like:

  • Step 1: Social Post with a Hook ➡
  • Step 2: Click to be directed to a Landing Page ➡
  • Step 3: Fill out a Form ➡
  • Step 4: Redirect to a Thank You Page ➡
  • Step 5: Now, go to your Email ➡
  • Step 6: Finally, (hopefully) download the Resource.

Sound familiar? Sure, it works sometimes—but it’s clunky, and with every step, we’re losing people.

Now think about this: What if someone could get your resource immediately—right there on the platform they’re already on? Less clicking, fewer steps, and more value delivered faster. That’s what a frictionless lead generation system is all about.

This leads me to the next market trend (aka strategy.)

2. Interactive Content

One of the best ways to create a frictionless system is by using interactive content.

So, what exactly is interactive content? Simply put, it’s content that requires your audience to actively engage with it rather than just passively consuming it. It’s a two-way street: they’re interacting with you, and in return, you’re giving them a more personalized and engaging experience.

Why Does This Work So Well?

Here’s the thing—audiences are overwhelmed by static content. Endless posts, blogs, and emails can start to feel like white noise. Interactive content breaks through that noise because it’s fun, engaging, and, let’s be honest, a little irresistible.

Plus, interactive content leads to better conversions because it feels tailored to the person interacting with it. Whether it’s solving a problem, giving a result, or sparking curiosity, it makes your audience feel seen and understood—which is the fastest path to building trust.

Examples of Interactive Content

  • Quizzes: “What’s Your Business Personality Type?” or “Which Fitness Plan is Right for You?”
  • Polls & Surveys: Quick questions that encourage people to share their opinions or preferences.
  • Interactive Calculators: Tools like a “Profit Planner” or “Budget Forecaster” that deliver a result instantly.
  • Assessments: Simple tools that give a score or result, like “Rate Your Productivity in 3 Minutes.”
  • Gamified Content: Spin-to-win offers, challenges, or checklists that invite action.

A Frictionless Lead Gen Funnel Using Interactive Content

Let me show you how this could work in a frictionless way:

  • Step 1: Social Post with a Hook ➡ “Curious what your Business Superpower is? Take this 2-minute quiz to find out!”
  • Step 2: The audience clicks and takes the interactive quiz immediately—no forms, no email required to start.
  • Step 3: At the end of the quiz, they get a personalized result (instant value!) with a soft CTA like, “Want my free guide on how to turn your superpower into sales? Drop your email below, and I’ll send it right over.”
  • Step 4: They enter their email after engaging, making it feel like a natural next step rather than a barrier.

See how much smoother that feels? We eliminated 2 – 3 steps in the process and delivered value first before asking for anything in return. It’s frictionless, it’s engaging, and it keeps people moving toward your offer without resistance.

3. Personalization Through Automation

Now, let’s talk about a trend that’s still going strong: Personalization Through Automation.

Here’s the thing—this concept isn’t new. Tools like Keap have been around for a while, helping entrepreneurs set up automated systems. But back then, most people used these tools like glorified auto-responders, sending the same cookie-cutter emails to their entire list. It was fast, but it lacked relevance and connection—and let’s be honest, it cost a lot of people their subscribers.

Today, personalization through automation is no longer just “nice to have”—it’s essential. Entrepreneurs are finally understanding that automation works best when it feels personal. People don’t want to be treated like a number; they want to feel like you understand who they are, what they care about, and what they need.

What Exactly Is It?

Personalization through automation uses tools and workflows to analyze your audience’s behavior—like clicks, opens, and interactions—and then automatically deliver content, offers, or follow-ups that are tailored specifically for them. In other words, it helps you speak to the right person, at the right time, with the right message.

Let’s Look at Email Marketing

Email marketing is a perfect example of how personalization through automation is leveling up the way we connect with our audiences. Instead of blasting the same email to your entire list and crossing your fingers, automation allows you to create email sequences that feel intentional, personal, and well-timed.

Here’s How It Works:

Let’s say you’re using a platform like Keap. Keap helps you leverage automation to:

  • Segment Your Audience: Group subscribers based on their actions or interests so you can send content that actually matters to them.
  • Trigger Automated Emails: Set up email sequences that fire off at just the right moment. For example:
    • If someone clicks on a link in your newsletter about “lead generation,” Keap can send a follow-up email with a related freebie or offer.
    • If someone abandons their shopping cart, Keap can send an automated email reminding them to check out—maybe with a little incentive like a discount or free shipping to nudge them back.
  • Deliver Timely, Personalized Content: Automation allows you to send emails based on user behavior—like birthdays, purchase anniversaries, or when they interact with specific content—making your messages feel thoughtful and relevant.

Why Does This Work So Well?

  • It Feels Personal: When someone gets an email that directly speaks to their interests or actions, they’re far more likely to pay attention. Instead of, “Here’s our latest guide,” it becomes, “Since you loved our social media tips, here’s a free resource on growing your audience even faster.”
  • It’s Timely: Automation ensures you’re sending the right message when it matters most. Whether it’s following up on a click, reminding someone of an abandoned cart, or celebrating their milestones, good timing can make all the difference.
  • It Drives Better Results: Personalized, automated emails consistently see higher open

Platforms like Keap make personalization through automation simple and effective, saving you hours of manual work while still giving your audience the feeling that you’re speaking directly to them. And here’s the best part: when done right, this builds trust, improves retention, and makes every subscriber feel like they truly matter.

Website Experiences

Another place where personalization through automation is making a big impact is on your website. Gone are the days of static websites where every visitor saw the exact same thing. Today, tools like Intercom allow you to deliver a dynamic, personalized experience to your visitors in real-time—based on who they are, what they’re looking for, and where they are in their journey.

Here’s How It Works:

Let’s say someone lands on your website. Instead of showing them generic information, you can use a tool like Intercom to tailor the experience to them:

  1. Behavior-Based Messaging: Intercom can trigger a personalized message based on how the visitor interacts with your site.
    • Example: If someone’s been scrolling your pricing page for more than 30 seconds, a chat window could pop up and say: “Got questions about our pricing? I’m here to help!”
    • If they’re a returning visitor, it might say: “Welcome back! Ready to pick up where you left off?”
  2. Segmented Content Recommendations: Intercom can guide visitors to the most relevant resources.
    • Example: If someone’s been reading blog posts on email marketing, a chat bot could suggest a free resource: “Hey! You might love our guide: ‘5 Email Strategies to Boost Your Open Rates.’ Want me to send it over?”
  3. Lead Qualification on Autopilot: Not every visitor is ready to buy, but some might be very close. Intercom can identify qualified leads and gently nudge them toward the next step.
    • Example: For someone who’s visited your “Schedule a Demo” page twice, Intercom could display: “Would you like to book a 10-minute call to see how we can help your business? Let’s get you scheduled!”

Why Does This Work So Well?

  • It’s Instant: Your audience gets the help, answers, or resources they need right when they need them, without having to dig around your site.
  • It Feels Relevant: Visitors don’t feel like they’re being sold to—they feel like you understand them. The experience becomes helpful and personalized, not pushy.
  • It Converts Better: By guiding visitors toward the next logical step—whether that’s downloading a resource, booking a call, or making a purchase—you’re meeting them where they are and removing friction.

Tools like Intercom allow you to create website experiences that feel personal, intuitive, and customer-focused. Instead of being just another stop on the internet, your site becomes a dynamic tool that connects with visitors, nurtures their journey, and helps them take action—all without you lifting a finger.

Looking Into Our Crystal Ball: 2025 Trends That Will Continue

Now that we’ve covered what’s working right now, let’s look ahead. Because if there’s one thing we know about marketing, it’s that it never stands still.

The strategies we’ve talked about—frictionless lead generation, interactive content, and personalization through automation—aren’t just trends for today. They’re part of a bigger shift in how businesses connect with their audience: more seamless, more personal, and more engaging.

So, what does this mean for 2025? It means these strategies are only going to get stronger and more impactful. But we’re also going to see new trends emerge—trends that build on what’s already working and push us even further toward marketing that feels human, personal, and effective.

Let’s take a peek into the future and explore the top three trends that are set to shape marketing in 2025, which I believe will be:

  1. AI-Driven Personalization
  2. Social Media Shopping Boom
  3. Connection-Driven Communities

1. AI-Drive Personalization Chatbots

One of the most exciting tools under the AI-driven personalization umbrella is chatbots—specifically what we like to call “The Social Buzz Bot.”

Now, chatbots have been around for a while, but they’re becoming increasingly popular as platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn evolve. Why? Because they offer instant, personalized interactions with your audience—right where they’re already hanging out.

How It Works

Let’s say you create a social media post with a strong call to action, like:
“Want my free guide to doubling your email list in 30 days? Drop the word GUIDE in the comments, and I’ll send it right to your inbox!”

Here’s where the magic happens:

  1. A follower comments “GUIDE” on your post.
  2. The Social Buzz Bot (powered by a tool like ManyChat) kicks in instantly, sending an automated message that feels personal and seamless.
    • For example: “Awesome! I’ve got the guide ready for you. Just click here to let me know where to send it.”
  3. From there, the bot collects their email or directs them to download the resource—no landing page, no long forms, no unnecessary friction.

Why Is This So Effective?

  • Instant Engagement: The bot responds immediately, keeping momentum and excitement high. No waiting around for a reply.
  • Personalized Experience: It feels like a conversation—not like you’re talking to a robot.
  • Higher Conversions: By removing extra steps (like navigating to a landing page), you’re more likely to capture leads and get results.

Plus, tools like ManyChat make it simple to set these bots up, so they’re running behind the scenes while you focus on other parts of your business.

The Social Buzz Bot is a perfect example of where AI-driven personalization meets convenience and connection. It’s helping businesses engage their audience, grow their lists, and deliver value faster than ever.

Now, let’s move on to the second big trend that’s shaping 2025: Social Media Shopping Boom.

2. Social Media Shopping Boom

The second big trend shaping 2025 is the Social Media Shopping Boom. If you’re not already paying attention to this, now’s the time to lean in because this is where your audience is spending their time and money.

Social platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok have transformed from places to “like and scroll” into full-blown shopping destinations. With features like Instagram Shops, Facebook Marketplace, and TikTok’s in-app shopping, consumers can discover products, shop, and check out—all without ever leaving the platform.

And here’s the kicker: this trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

The Proof Is in the Numbers

  • According to recent studies, social commerce sales are expected to hit $1.2 trillion globally by 2025. Yes, trillion.
  • Platforms like TikTok are driving this growth, with 1 in 3 Gen Z shoppers saying they’ve purchased a product directly through social media in the last year.
  • On Instagram alone, 44% of users shop weekly using features like Stories, Shops, and product tags.

Social media isn’t just influencing buying decisions—it’s where those buying decisions are happening.

Why Is This So Important?

This shift toward social commerce removes friction for your audience and makes purchasing simple, fun, and seamless. Think about it:

  • Fewer Steps to Purchase: Your audience doesn’t need to leave the app, visit your website, or fill out lengthy forms. They see a product, click, and buy—right then and there.
  • Discovery-Driven Shopping: Social platforms make it easy for people to discover new brands, products, and services through ads, influencers, and recommendations.
  • Interactive and Visual: Shopping on social media feels less like a chore and more like an experience. Whether it’s watching a TikTok demo or swiping through Instagram Stories, your audience gets to see products in action before they buy.

How to Leverage This Trend

If you’re ready to take advantage of the social shopping boom, here’s where to start:

  1. Set Up Your Shop: Use features like Instagram Shops, Facebook Marketplace, or TikTok Shopping to create a seamless buying experience.
  2. Collaborate with Influencers: Influencers play a huge role in driving social commerce. Partner with creators who align with your brand and have built trust with their audience.
  3. Use Video to Showcase Products: Short-form videos—like TikToks, Reels, or live demos—are perfect for showing your audience why they need what you’re selling.

Social media shopping isn’t just a trend—it’s the future of e-commerce. Businesses that tap into this now will be ahead of the curve, ready to meet their audience where they already are.

Now, let’s move on to the third (and final) trend we’ll see growing in 2025: The Rise of Connection-Driven Communities.

3. The Rise of Connection-Driven Communities

In a world where we’re constantly bombarded with content and ads, people are craving connection more than ever. They don’t just want to follow brands—they want to be a part of something meaningful. This is why we’re seeing a major shift toward businesses creating communities where people can connect, learn, and grow together.

What Exactly Are Connection-Driven Communities?

These are spaces—whether free or paid—where your audience comes together to share experiences, support one another, and engage with you and your brand in a deeper way. It’s more than just followers or subscribers; it’s about building a loyal, engaged group of people who feel seen, valued, and connected to what you’re doing.

Why Is This Trend Growing?

  1. People Want More Than Content: They want conversations. Communities create a two-way street where people can engage, ask questions, and feel like they belong.
  2. Trust and Loyalty Are Built Here: When people feel connected to you, they’re more likely to trust you, share your work, and stick around for the long haul.
  3. The Algorithm Loves It: Whether it’s Facebook Groups, LinkedIn Groups, or private platforms like Skool or Circle, communities drive engagement—and engagement boosts visibility.

Examples of Connection-Driven Communities

  • Free Communities: Facebook Groups, Discord servers, or LinkedIn Groups where members can discuss shared interests, challenges, and solutions.
    • Example: A Facebook Group where health coaches share weekly tips, host live trainings, and encourage members to share their wins and struggles.
  • Paid Communities: Membership sites or private groups that offer exclusive content, tools, trainings, or networking opportunities.
    • Example: A paid membership where entrepreneurs gain access to live coaching, templates, and a supportive group of like-minded peers.

Why This Trend Is a Game-Changer

Connection-driven communities allow you to move beyond the transactional side of business and build real relationships with your audience. People don’t just buy products or services—they buy into you and the experience you create for them.

And here’s the best part: Communities turn your audience into ambassadors. When people feel connected and supported, they naturally share, invite, and bring others into the fold—helping you grow organically.

As we look ahead to 2025, businesses that prioritize community-building will stand out, foster trust, and create loyal audiences that stick with them for the long run.
